Valsartan Lawsuit

Do you need a Valsartan lawsuit after the defective high blood pressure drug caused cancer or other injuries such as liver damage or tumors? If so, contact The Willis Law Firm today for a free, confidential and no-obligation review of your case. Your family may be legally entitled to substantial payments for your injury.

Valsartan lawsuits are necessary because negligent sellers of the drug’s generic versions, in a cost-cutting move, outsourced manufacture of it to companies in China and India. Some of those foreign companies then delivered valsartan products for Americans to use which were contaminated by NMDA (N-nitrosodimethylamine), an impurity that can cause cancer in humans, even at very low levels.

FDA Valsartan Recall

The situation was so bad that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration called for a recall of some generic valsartan and valsartan HCTZ to protect the public. In Europe, a widespread valsartan recall also has been made.

But the damage already has been done. The FDA estimates that up to 3.7 million patients were prescribed medications with valsartan each year for a three-year period ending in 2018. Many such patients may have been exposed to impurities which can cause cancer or other harmful valsartan side effects.

What’s worse is that valsartan is a so-called “maintenance drug,” meaning it’s taken once or twice daily over a long period of time. Because of that, persons taking defective valsartan may have consumed the contaminating NDMA steadily for years, which is just the kind of cumulative exposure that can lead to cancer.

But these Americans can fight back. They can engage our law firm to get a valsartan lawsuit claiming payments which can compensate them financially for their losses. Such lawsuits can claim money for valsartan victims’ medical costs, lost wages and pain and suffering due to the defective drug.

You already may have received a letter from pharmaceutical drug insurer Humana alerting you to the dangers of prescription generic valsartan and valsartan HCTZ when treating high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. If not, let this stand as a warning to you: These drugs may be dangerous, and you should be alert to such dangers.

Again, the problem lies with generic versions of valsartan, not with the drug’s original brand, called Diovan. Diovan is not a part of the FDA’s generic valsartan recall -- its largest ever Class 1 recall -- which was issued in July of 2018.

Valsartan Lawsuit Targets

In the event that you or a loved one has suffered a valsartan side effects injury, who can be targeted by your defective drug lawsuit? Who should pay for your injuries?

That would be the negligent company which sold you the drug. Our law firm is aware of these companies and can ensure that your valsartan lawsuit targets the appropriate drug supplier.

Valsartan Treatments

It shouldn’t be this way. Valsartan products should have been safe as antihypertensive drugs to treat high blood pressure. They can do so by blocking the peptide hormone angiotensin II, which causes blood vessels to constrict and leads to high blood pressure.

As an angiotensin II receptor blocker, valsartan also should have been safe to help reduce the risk of death after a heart attack by treating left ventricular heart failure and left ventricular heart dysfunction. Indeed, valsartan has been effective in staving off heart failure.

But for some patients, such beneficial properties have been offset by the deadly side effects of the impurities found in some generic valsartan products.

Was Your Valsartan Contaminated?

How can you know if you’ve taken contaminated valsartan? Check with your prescribing physician to learn which version of generic valsartan you’ve taken -- and then determine if it’s on the FDA’s recall list.

Not every generic version of valsartan was contaminated. The FDA recall in the U.S. extends only to valsartan products from Major Pharmaceuticals, Solco Healthcare and Teva Pharmaceutical.

Defective Valsartan Side Effects

If you learn you may have taken contaminated valsartan, be aware of the symptoms of overexposure to dangerous NDMA in valsartan products. Such valsartan symptoms may include fever, headaches, dizziness, an enlarged liver, vomiting, abdominal camping, jaundice, nausea and lessened functional abilities of the lungs and liver.

Also be alert to symptoms of impaired kidneys, such as swelling of the ankles, feet or hands, as well as weight gain. And be keenly aware of liver, colon or colorectal cancer, all of which have been shown to be possible side effects of contaminated generic valsartan.
